  • Data Display

Data Display
If a waveform view of component data versus clock cycle count is more appropriate than watching the current data on the actual components, this can be achieved with the Data Display. Component data can be seen changing on a step by step basis, forming familiar binary waveforms. Data from components at any level in the design can be watched side by side.
  • Adding components to the Data Display
When online, right click on the component you want to add to the Data Display. If this component contains data then a menu item will appear called 'Watch in Data Display'. Selecting this menu item will add the component to the Data Display. The Data Display need not be visible at the time you add components to it. If you right click on a component and do not get the option to add the component to the Data Display it may be because either, the component contains no data, the component is already in the Data Display or you have clicked on a state or transition.
  • Markers
Two markers are provided in the waveform view. Clicking on the waveform with the left mouse button will activate marker 1 at the clicked position. Clicking with the right mouse button will activate marker 2. Marker 1 is drawn in red, while marker 2 is drawn in green. The markers can also be moved by using the spin controls on the dialog. Setting the spin values below zero will hide the markers. When both markers are valid the number of scans between them are also shown. Centring on either marker can be achieved by clicking on the centre marker buttons.
  • Clear All & Clear Waveforms
The Clear All button will remove all components from the Data Display. The Clear Waveforms button will not remove any components from the Data Display, but will remove all waveforms associated with the components.
  • The Zoom Level buttons
The Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons can be clicked or held down to adjust the zoom level of the waveforms view. Alternatively, if you have a mouse with a wheel on it, zooming can be done by holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel backwards or forwards while the cursor is over the waveforms view. The Zoom To Normal button will return the scale of the waveforms view to it's original setting. The Zoom To Fit button will change the scale of the waveforms view so that the entire length of all waveforms are visible.
  • Saving and opening waveforms
At any time while online the current set of waveforms can be saved to disk. The user is prompted for a name to save the waveforms under. When offline these waveforms can be re-opened using the 'Open or Manage Waveforms' button on the Data Display dialog. This button presents a list of the existing waveforms to the user, where they can be opened or deleted.
  • Waveform printing
The print button on the Data Display dialog brings up a standard print setup dialog. For more information about printing waveforms please see Waveform Print Options.
  • Managing components in the Data Display
Once components have been added to the Data Display they appear by name in the list view on the left of the dialog. Within this list they can be re-arranged by right clicking on the component and selecting 'Move Up', 'Move to Top', 'Move Down' or 'Move to Bottom' depending on where the component is in the list. From this same right-click menu the component selected can also be removed from the list, or it's value format changed.
